TURNOUT Privacy Policy
Who we are: TURNOUT is made by Turnout LLC ("we", "us"), a Florida limited liability company, Winter Garden, Florida. Contact: privacy@turnoutfit.com.
TURNOUT is not medical advice and not a fitness-for-duty tool.
The short version
- No account. TURNOUT has no sign-in. We don't know who you are.
- Your data stays on your iPhone. Shifts, meals, water, sleep, workouts and debriefs are stored only on your device. We don't have a server that receives them.
- Apple Health is read-only. If you allow it, TURNOUT reads your step count and sleep. It never writes to Apple Health, and it doesn't keep a copy of your Health data.
- No ads, no tracking, no selling or sharing your data. No analytics or advertising SDKs.
- You can delete everything at any time with More › Delete all my data, or by deleting the app.

Scores in TURNOUT (readiness, SleepLoad, fuel) are calculated on your device from this data.
2. Apple Health (HealthKit)
- TURNOUT asks for read permission only, for two types: step count and sleep analysis. For sleep, TURNOUT counts only the time Apple Health records you as asleep, not time in bed or awake, and uses the first and last asleep times as your bedtime and wake time. Your sleep rating always comes from you, never from Health. You choose in the iOS Health permission sheet and can change it anytime in Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices › TURNOUT.
- TURNOUT never writes data to Apple Health.
- Health data is used only to show you your own steps and sleep inside the app. TURNOUT reads it when needed and does not save a copy. We do not use it for advertising, marketing, or data mining; we do not sell it; we do not disclose it to third parties; and we do not store it in iCloud or on any server we control.
3. The camera
The camera is used only when you tap Scan barcode. The barcode is read on your device; camera images stay on your phone and are never saved or sent.
4. Food lookups (Open Food Facts)
When you scan a barcode or search for a food, TURNOUT sends that barcode number or search text to Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org), a free public food database, to get nutrition info. No name, account, or health data is sent with it. Like any website, Open Food Facts receives your device's IP address and basic request info when it answers. Its handling is covered by the Open Food Facts privacy policy. Results may be cached on your device so repeat lookups work offline. If you don't want this, type meals in manually.
5. Links to other sites
TURNOUT links to outside resources (for example the IAFF Center of Excellence and Code Green Campaign). If you tap one, it opens in your browser and that site's own privacy policy applies.
6. What we do NOT do
- No accounts, emails, names, or phone numbers collected.
- No analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking SDKs. No IDFA.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of personal information. We don't "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are used in California law.
- No data sent to your fire department, employer, union, or insurer. TURNOUT can't be used by anyone to judge your fitness for duty.
7. Backups and your device
Your data is protected by your iPhone's own security (passcode, Face ID, encryption). Data you enter in TURNOUT can be part of your iPhone's own encrypted backup, if you use one. TURNOUT never saves Apple Health data, so none is included.
8. Keeping and deleting data
- Debrief check-ins are deleted automatically after 90 days. Keeping them on your phone is a privacy design choice; it is not a legal confidentiality privilege.
- Everything else stays on your device until you delete it.
- More › Delete all my data erases all TURNOUT data on the device immediately. Deleting the app does the same. Data already in Apple Health is not affected, because TURNOUT never wrote it.
- Because we don't hold your data, we can't recover it for you, and there's nothing for us to export or delete on our side. You're welcome to contact us with questions anyway.
9. Children
TURNOUT is meant for adult firefighters and first responders and is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example California, other US states, the EU/UK), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information. Since TURNOUT keeps your data only on your device, you can exercise these directly in the app. For any request or question, email privacy@turnoutfit.com.
11. Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date and, for meaningful changes (like adding sync, accounts, or subscriptions), tell you in the app before the change applies.
